About Pacifi

A small Melbourne car company, doing the obvious things well.

Started in 2019 with eight cars and a phone number. Six years later, eighty-four cars and the same phone number.

Pacifi was started by Weera De Alwis in late 2019, with eight cars parked behind a workshop in Blackburn and one mobile number that he answered himself. The original customers were Uber drivers who could not get approved for a car loan, and international students whose visa types did not fit the dealership's drop-downs.

Six years later we have eighty-four cars, two locations, a small team that knows every customer by name, and we still answer the phone within four rings. The original problem we solved — making it easy for the people car finance was designed to reject — is still the most differentiated thing we do.

We are part of Pacifiathlandi Holdings, a family-owned Melbourne investment group that also runs Pacifiathlandi Travel & Tours. We are not VC-backed, we are not on a path to IPO, and we are not interested in becoming the next Splend. We are interested in being the rental company you tell your friend about.

Three things that make us different

No tricks. Just the obvious things, done.

01 · The price

What we quote is what you pay.

Insurance, GST, airport fee — bundled into the price you see. No "damage waiver" upsell at the desk, no card surcharge, no fuel-policy gotchas. A handful of dollars cheaper than the majors, every day.

02 · The phone

A person picks up.

Within four rings, between 8am and 7pm Mon–Fri (and Sat 9–5). We do not have a chatbot. We do not have a phone tree. If you call to change a booking, you talk to someone in Blackburn who has the authority to fix it.

03 · The long-term

A real path to owning the car.

Our long-term plans were built for the drivers the bank rejected. Three years of one flat weekly rate, fully insured and serviced, with an optional fixed-price buyout. Half our long-term drivers exercise it. The other half hand the keys back, no penalty.

Where the cars come from

A small list of supplier relationships, kept honest.

Fleet sourcing

Direct from manufacturer fleet desks.

Toyota Australia, Hyundai, Mazda, BYD Australia, and a small Tesla allocation through Tesla Melbourne. Every car is brand-new, on Pacifi rego, and turned over at 80,000km or 18 months — whichever comes first.

Insurance

RACV Comprehensive, on every rental.

One insurance partner, one policy structure, no hidden exclusions. RACV handles all claims directly. You can reduce your excess down to $0 at checkout — most renters choose the middle option.

Servicing

Local mechanics, log-book service.

Cars are serviced at Whitehorse Motor Group in Box Hill (Toyota / Subaru) and Patterson Cheney in Mulgrave (Tesla / others). Manufacturer-spec parts, manufacturer-recommended intervals, full service history kept on file.

Pacifiathlandi Holdings

Part of something quietly multicultural.

Pacifi is one of two consumer brands operated by Pacifiathlandi Holdings — a Melbourne-based family business that's been investing in Australian travel and mobility since 2014. Our sister brand, Pacifiathlandi Travel & Tours, launches later this year. The full founder story and group structure live on the parent site.
